Sticky Pancakes

I told Paul I had to blog this event for your reading enjoyment. Last Sunday, as we were running slightly late for church, I began to crave pancakes. My early-to-everything husband kindly informed me that we didn't have time, and Honey Bunches of Oats was the only option. However, I wisely pointed out that he was ready and I was not, thereby convincing him that he had time to make them...(okay, so I begged a little). Loving husband that he is, the pancake making began with a fury - such a fury, in fact, that we experienced sticky pancakes. I rushed into the kitchen to see Paul attempting to flip said sticky pancakes with a perplexed look on his face as he gazed at the strings of goo attaching pancakes to pan. "Honey, these pancakes are really sticky! Corn oil doesn't work very well." His comment confused me as I knew we didn't have any corn oil. Suddenly things became clear as the open bottle of Karo Corn Syrup caught my eye....

Jammin' with the Fam

We had a fun weekend with our 2 dads and "other mothers" over at Grandpa's. The folks bonded over their fondness for Gordon Lightfoot and Alison Crauss. (The three canine children are missing from the photos because they were out back playing, and they can't sing anyway, though I think Derby tries.) It was quite the hometown hoedown "hoot-n-nanny!" (Could someone please tell what a hoot-n-nanny is?) Poor Grandpa put up with lots of music and was a gracious host. Dad Russ tried to pull a fast one with Dad Mike's tuner, but he and Collie are too quick for that. Our gala event also featured a live mandolin and a live violin. I'm sure you wish you could all listen to this beautiful blend of melodic creations, but you'll just have to imagine since I can't figure out how to post movie files. (If anyone knows how, please tell me). The musical selections for the evening ranged from such classics as "Lord, it's Hard to Be Humble," and "The Streets of Laredo" to lighthearted, happy tunes like "Greenfields" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" It was truly a Stillwell/Jackson family jam session at its finest.

Jakey's getting so big! I think he's almost 4 months old in these pictures. Isn't he adorable?

Las Gaviotas, Baja

We had an awesome day down in Mexico with our friends Chris and Melissa at Las Gaviotas. The boys had a glassy surf session all by themselves while the girls talked and watched the sunset. Then we all went out for some good Mexican food in Puerto Nuevo. Hey guys - if we ever decide to do a family vacation someplace other than Big Bear, this would be pretty cool!

Disney Memories with Family

We got to spend the day at Disneyland with Mom, Tom, Mark, Louisa, Erin and Claire. And now we have season passes! We also discovered some hidden hula hoop talents.

It's getting addicting...

I finally gave in and joined the blogging world, and yes, it is addicting. Pretty fun! Well you will all know when my house is messy or when I have a paper due, because I will probably be writing unneccessary rambling blog entries such as this one to procrastinate. East Coast Wind Swell at Cocoa Beach

Paul went out for about half an hour in the 85 degree water. After 5 minutes, the current had taken him 200 yards down the beach. Back in SC, we don't even go out on days like this, but in Florida you gotta take what you can get - just another one of the many reasons we are not moving to Orlando!
